The sessions

Session #1

October 2, 2024 | 3:30 - 5:00 PM EST

The Before: What are the considerations we need to have before people enter into professional learning experiences?

  • What is the feel of the space that people are walking into and why does it matter?
  • Are we creating spaces and environments for adults to learn in the same manner that we would create these spaces for our students?
  • Who is in the room to start the learning session, and how can that create a deeper accountability?
Session #2

October 9, 2024 | 3:30 - 5:00 PM EST

The During: How to focus on helping adults create their own learning.

  • Learn to strike an effective balance between individual learning reflection and collaboration.
  • Create learning that has meaningful evidence and information, while also creating an emotional impact.
  • Focus on innovative ways for learners to share and deepen their own learning.
Session #3

October 16, 2024 | 3:30 - 5:00 PM EST

The After: Ensure the learning works, and establish a ‘cadence of accountability.’

  • Tap into the staffs’ strengths, debunk the notion that you cannot be a “prophet in your own land.”
  • Focus on what is imperative, and what needs to go. Be intentional with the idea that “less is more.”
  • Follow up on feedback; what was learned and heard from your community, and how do you ensure that meaningful feedback is acted upon?
Session #4

October 30, 2024 | 3:30 - 5:00 pm EST

The In-Between: How to continue growth and development between in-person meetings

  • Identify opportunities to make great learning ‘go viral’ in your school or organization.
  • Maintain positive momentum for what was learned on in-person learning days.
  • Empower staff to connect within and outside your organization for continued growth
Session #5

Nov. 6, 2024 | 3:30 - 5:00 pm EST

The Adjustment: Determine what worked and what didn’t.

  • Go ‘beyond data’ and collect evidence to show what was learned, and where people need to grown
  • Understand what challenged you? What has been reaffirmed? What will you do moving forward? (And why do these questions matter)
  • Learn to measure evidence in different ways, to determine if professional learning improved.

Frequently asked questions

What is Retain teachers & improve learning through innovative & personalized professional development — and how can it help?

As schools struggle to retain teachers, the need for engaging training and professional development resources that ignite educators’ passions has never been greater. In this five-session virtual cohort, best-selling author and internationally recognized presenter and educator George Couros shows you how to create innovative professional learning experiences that not only improve learning for students, but adults as well. Learn how to engage a room full of educators, get their creative juices flowing, and use that energy to power an active and engaged school culture, all toward one universal goal: improved student outcomes.

Why do this as part of a cohort?

The RocketPD cohort experience is designed to give school district leaders, ESCs and instructional trainers and coaches an actionable, affordable and convenient way to facilitate effective professional development at a time when schools and school communities face both intense initiative fatigue and competing distractions. ESCs and school districts can register select members of their organizations and/or building or central-office teams for this interactive, five-session, live-virtual cohort.

What’s included in this program?

Delivered over five weeks, the program includes (5) scheduled structured learning conversations, delivered virtually over Zoom. Plus, password-protected access to the RocketPD Learning Portal, where participants can access practical resources, including a custom “playlist” for each session and, for a limited time, the sessions recordings.

Who should participate?

Retain teachers & improve learning through innovative & personalized professional development is an (5)-session (90 minutes each) collaborative professional-learning experience for ESC leaders, professional development coordinators, district and site-level administrators, instructional coaches and teachers. Participants will emerge with practical and proven strategies to deliver effective instructor and expert-led professional development that retains and engages staff, while improving student outcomes.

How will this help my team?

The RocketPD cohort experience provides a unique opportunity for ESCs, professional development coordinators, school district leadership and their staff teams to have candid conversations with a nationally recognized educator and best-selling author on the subject of staff retention and the power of effective professional development design and delivery. Unlike one-off seminars and keynote speeches, the cohort provides a clear opportunity for sustained development and the basis for a framework that school leaders can use to create stronger, more supportive environments for sustainable success.

What is the schedule?

This (5)-session cohort-based experience will take place between October and December 2024. You can view the the full schedule, including dates and times on the schedule section above. If you want to participate in this cohort, but the dates and times do not work for your schedule, keep in mind that, while live participation is always encouraged, the sessions are recorded and accessible via the RocketPD Learning Portal for a limited time. If you have a large team (10 or more), and the schedule dates and times do not work for you entire team, reach out using the form below to inquire about the formation of a custom cohort for your district.
